Activities in Los Destiladeros

With the area’s exquisite landscape, activities in Los Destiladeros tend to revolve around the sea. Surfing, fishing, and diving are some of the activities you can enjoy in Los Destiladeros– and the surrounding Azuero landscape offers plenty more.

There is also great surfing in Los Destiladeros that many say rivals the main break at Playa Venao. There are miles and miles of sandy beach, broken up only by intermittent rocky outcroppings that are perfect for tidepooling at low tide. These rocky outcroppings are teeming with sea life, and you’ll often see the locals gathering shellfish near shore, or even venturing out deeper to hunt lobster, octopus, and inshore fish species.

There are also miles of secondary dirt road and trails that zig-zag through the hillsides. Here you can go hiking, birdwatching, monkey sighting, or simply saunter through this tropical oasis at your leisure. Area homes offer a front-row seat to the area’s diverse wildlife– just pull up a chair on the balcony and watch the colorful birds flutter by.

Los Destiladeros Real Estate Market

The rise of Los Destiladeros as a high-end community can be mainly attributed to Gilles and Camille Saint Gilles, who settled in the area about twenty years ago. Having designed and built mansions and palaces from France to the Middle East, Gilles Saint Gilles set about realizing his vision, known as the Azueros community, of a tropical oasis of beauty and architectural wonder built across a large parcel of forested hills and sandy beaches.


For the last 15 years, the Azueros community, with its dozens of large estate homes, townhomes, and beach condominiums, has been the heart of the property market in Los Destiladeros.

More recently, other builders and developers have begun to offer a growing variety of land and home options in this amazing setting. Wind Beach, a small community overlooking Playa Los Destiladeros, offers ocean-view land parcels of approximately 2000m2 (1/2 acre) to 8000m2 (2 acres) for investors to build their dream homes. The views from this community are truly world-class and most are now sold, with more modern, Ibiza-inspired homes starting to dot the hillside.
